Had to pick between chasing a noise and skipping it. I chose wrong.
Customer rolls in Tuesday with a creak that only happens out of the saddle. I got 20 minutes before the next tune-up slot opens. I decided to chase it anyway, pulled the seatpost, greased it, torqued it back, still creaked. Then I found the rear hub has rough bearings, but by then I was 15 minutes late and the tune-up sat waiting. Next time I'm doing the quick check first, then the deep dive. Anyone else get burned by picking the wrong starting point on a mystery creak?
