PSA: check your chain wear with a ruler before you trust the gauge on the counter
An old mechanic named Ray at the shop on 5th Street told me the plastic chain checker I'd been using would read worn way too early, and he was right. I grabbed a steel ruler and measured 12 inches of chain on a customer's bike that the gauge said was shot, and it was barely past 1/16 inch of stretch. Been doing the ruler trick on every tune-up since March and I've saved maybe four or five chains from getting tossed early. Anyone else here measure by hand instead of trusting the go gauge?
