PSA: I stopped using cable cutters on housing and my shifts got cleaner
For a long time I used my Park CN-10 cutters on brake and shift housing and always had to file the end flat after. A retired mechanic at the co-op in Portland showed me his trick of using a Dremel with a cut off wheel to slice housing, then poking a pick through the liner to open it back up. The difference in shift quality was clear right away, no more crushed outer wires and no more mushroomed ends. It takes maybe 30 extra seconds per cable but I have not had a single gritty shift since I started doing it. Anyone else cutting housing a different way that gets a clean end every time?
