Remember when we all bought those cheap torque wrenches from the auto parts store?

I got one for like $25 about 8 years ago, used it on a carbon seatpost, and it clicked way early. Snapped the clamp bolt and had to replace the whole post, which was a solid $120 mistake. What's the cheapest torque tool you actually trust on customer bikes now?

Ouch, that's a painful way to learn that lesson. I'm still suspicious of those bargain bin click wrenches. What specific job were you doing when it failed, and have you checked the wrench's calibration since? A lot of those just collect dust and lose their accuracy.

Check the return policy, some of those cheap ones have a lifetime warranty they never talk about. Could be a free fix or replacement.

Exactly what Adam said - check that warranty first. Nancy824 is right about the calibration too, I had a cheap one fail on a suspension job and it was way off when I finally tested it.
