Stripped a spoke nipple on a customer's touring bike in the middle of a tune-up

Was rebuilding a wheel for a guy heading to Alaska, and the spoke wrench slipped. Took me 20 minutes to drill it out and thread a new one without ruining the rim. Anybody got a trick for getting stubborn nipples out faster?

Yeah, that pilot hole trick from @the_james is solid, I've done the same thing. If you don't have a left handed bit just use a sharp 1/16" drill and go slow so you don't wander into the rim. Biggest time saver for me is using a dab of penetrating oil before you drill, it keeps the heat down and makes the extractor bite way better.

Drill a tiny pilot hole first so the extractor bites better, saves you a lot of cursing. Did you use a left handed drill bit or just go straight in?
