TIL a good cable housing cut can make a huge difference
I swapped out the old, frayed housing on a customer's commuter bike yesterday. The new stuff I cut with my Park Tool CN-10 cutter, and the shift feel went from mushy to crisp in one ride. Anyone else notice how much a clean cut matters more than the housing brand sometimes?

You said a clean cut matters more than the housing brand. I have to disagree. A good cut is basic stuff, it just lets the housing work right. The brand and liner quality matter way more for long term feel. I've seen cheap housing with perfect cuts go mushy in a month, while good housing lasts. The cut is just step one.

Yeah, my buddy had the exact opposite happen. He put some top-shelf housing on his gravel bike but mangled the cuts with old pliers. Felt awful, like @finley_craig53 said, the good stuff couldn't even do its job. He redid it clean with a proper cutter and it was a night and day fix. So maybe it's both, you need the good base material and a clean start.
