TIL my old shop teacher was right about facing a bottom bracket
He always said to use a hand reamer, but I grabbed the power tool for a rush job on a vintage Peugeot last week and nearly ruined the shell. Anyone have a go-to reamer brand that holds up under shop use?

So you actually tried to face it with a power tool? That sounds terrifying. What kind of cutter did you even have on there that let you attempt it?

Honestly it was just a regular wood cutting blade, which in hindsight was a terrible idea. The whole thing was basically a panic move after I saw it crawling on the wall. Let's just say the drywall lost that fight, not the bug.

And honestly I think power tools are the way to go if you know what you're doing... a good variable speed electric drill with the right pilot and steady hands can face a shell way faster than any hand reamer. The trick is keeping the speed low and letting the cutter do the work instead of forcing it. I've been using a cheap no-name brand from eBay for years and it's never let me down on steel or aluminum frames.
