Vent: Took me 3 days to fix a slipping derailleur and it was just a rusty cable end
I swapped cables, adjusted the limit screws twice, and even replaced the hanger before a buddy pointed out the frayed end was catching inside the shifter housing, has anyone else spent way too long on something simple like this?

Bro, that rusty cable end thing is the WORST.

...and the worst part is you probably stared right at that frayed end a dozen times without it clicking. I've done the same thing with a shift cable that had a tiny burr inside the housing, took me swapping the whole damn shifter before I realized it. @lily230 is right, it's beyond frustrating. For any future cable jobs, I always clip the end clean and put a little dab of super glue or a proper crimp cap on it now. Saves you from chasing phantom shifting problems for hours.
