My friend insisted I skip the first season of 'The Wire'
He said it was too slow and I should start with season two. I gave it a shot, but I was totally lost on who anyone was or why anything mattered. I went back and watched the first season after all, and it made the whole show click. Has anyone else gotten bad advice about where to start a series?

Totally feel you on that. Skipping season one of The Wire is a crime. Got told to start Battlestar Galactica with the later seasons once. Made zero sense. The whole point is meeting everyone from the start, seeing how they break. That advice ruined the first big twist for me. Never listen to skip-ahead tips.

Exactly, skipping seasons just destroys the whole story's foundation. You need those early episodes to understand why characters make the choices they do later. It's like trying to build a house starting with the roof.
