Got wrecked at my first board game night in Columbus and it actually fixed how I teach games
Went to a meetup at a game store in Columbus last month and brought Spirit Island, thinking I could teach it in 15 minutes. A guy named Dave watched me ramble through the rules for over half an hour, then said 'you're explaining what the pieces do, not what we're trying to do.' Next week I ran the same group through Cascadia and started with the goal and one example turn before any rules, and we were playing in under 5 minutes. Turns out handing people a rulebook dump is the fastest way to make them check their phone. How do you all open a teach, do you start with the win condition or just walk through a sample turn?
