Guy at my game night in Austin called Dominion a solved game and I haven't stopped thinking about it
We had six people at my place last Friday and one guy, Mike, said he only plays Dominion with the base set because expansions just add noise. I've got three expansions and always figured more cards meant more fun, but he pointed out that most of our group just buys the same 4 or 5 piles every single game. He's not wrong, and now I'm wondering if bigger isn't always better with deck builders. Do you all stick to base sets or do the expansions actually change how your group plays?
Did you notice it happens most when you play the same people over and over? I used to be the guy saying it did not matter and we were just imagining it, like oh we are just in a rut or whatever. Then we tracked our games for a month and yeah, the same setups kept coming up way more than they should have. It was not even close to random. Once we started rolling for the layout instead of letting whoever set up first just do their usual thing, games got way more interesting. So yeah, you all are right to switch it up, I was wrong on that one.
