Just read that the original print run of Dune was only 5,000 copies

I was digging through some old game design articles and found a piece on the 1979 Dune board game. It said the first print run was just 5,000 boxes. That's nothing compared to how many copies of a big game get made now. It's wild to think that such a classic, complex game started so small. I guess it was a real niche thing back then before it got famous. Makes you wonder what other great games had tiny first runs. Has anyone else found a surprising fact about an old game's history?

Makes you wonder how many gems got lost in those tiny runs.

Seriously, how do you even begin to track something like that down?
