Just realized my whole approach to teaching new games changed after that one night at the Denver game cafe.

I watched a total newbie win our 4-hour game of Scythe by ignoring all the 'optimal' strategies we veterans kept suggesting and just focusing on one thing she thought was fun, which made me ask, do we sometimes explain the fun right out of a game?

Yeah that's a good point. Started just giving new players the basic rules and one goal now, then letting them figure out the rest. Works way better honestly.

Totally, I've seen that happen too.
