Pro tip: That $15 dollar store card game turned out to be a legit hit at game night

I walked into a dollar store last weekend looking for snacks, not board games. My buddy Dave kept saying we should try something new instead of our usual Catan rotation. I grabbed this dusty box called "Don't Get Got" for like 15 bucks thinking it would be a joke. Turns out it's actually a really clever party game where everyone gets a secret mission to do without the other players catching on. We played it for 3 hours straight and people were literally hiding under the table to complete tasks. The production quality is garbage and the cards are flimsy, but the gameplay itself is solid. Has anyone else found a surprisingly good board game from a random place like a thrift shop or gas station?

Ha, "dusty box called Don't Get Got" - that's exactly how I describe my life lately. I found this game called "The Resistance" at a gas station for 8 bucks while I was buying a disgusting hot dog and it's actually one of the best bluffing games I've ever played. The cards looked like someone printed them on napkins and the rulebook was basically a pamphlet in a language I think might have been Swedish, but my group ended up playing it for like 4 hours straight. I even hid in my own closet once to text my secret mission to a friend and my wife thought I was having some kind of mental breakdown. Honestly the cheap feel makes it more fun because you don't care if someone spills soda on it.

8 dollars for The Resistance is actually a ripoff when you consider how many better games you can get for free on your phone. Why would you spend actual money on cardboard when apps like Among Us exist and dont require you to run around your house like a lunatic? Plus hiding in closets and making your wife worry is not exactly a selling point for me, sounds like that game is causing more problems than its worth.
