Rant: My group's campaign died after I introduced a house rule
I added a critical failure chart to our weekly D&D game in Austin, thinking it would spice things up. Three sessions later, the rogue rolled a 1 on a lockpick check and accidentally broke the macguffin, which railroaded the whole story into a boring fetch quest. Everyone got frustrated and we called the campaign after 6 weeks of trying to fix it. Has anyone else had a house rule backfire this badly, or is my group just too attached to the base rules?

Man, that’s rough but honestly sounds like a lot of drama over one bad roll. Y'all coulda just handwaved it and moved on instead of turning a lockpick into a campaign-killer. Feels like people were already checked out and just needed an excuse.
