I was sure that new ceramic fiber blanket was just overpriced fluff
Had to reline a firebox on a job in Tacoma last week and the foreman insisted we use it. The stuff handled 2300 degrees without a single hot spot, which my old go-to material definitely would have shown. Anyone else run into a material that made you change your mind?

Ever try that new high-temp silicone gasket material? I fought it for years, but it seals so much better on uneven flanges. I won't go back to the old fiber rope now.

Switched last year on an old wood stove door that would never seal right. That fiber rope just crumbled and leaked air. Cut a strip of the silicone stuff, pressed it into the channel, and it formed to every little bump. Held up through a whole winter of daily fires without shrinking or getting brittle. Made a huge difference in heat control.
