Shop wants me to weld with a mirror in a tight spot, I say tear out the panel instead
Got a job at the paper mill in Canton and there is a header connection about 14 inches off the floor with a beam right in front. Foreman says use a mirror and weld it blind, I say cut an access window in the casing and weld it downhill like a normal person. He is worried about the structural sign off and the extra day of cutting and rewelding the window back. I think a mirror weld on a pressure part is asking for a reject on the X ray. What would you do, mirror it or open it up?
