Shoutout to the old timer who showed me a trick with a soapstone marker

We were laying out a big flange cut on a 3-inch thick piece of plate at the plant in Toledo, and my lines kept getting wiped off from the cutting oil. He told me to heat the tip of the soapstone with my torch for a second before marking. I tried it, and the line stayed put through the whole plasma cut, which saved us a ton of rework. Has anyone else picked up a weird little trick like that from an old hand on the job?

Always thought that was a myth!

Yeah @owens.nancy, I used to think the same thing until I tried it myself. What worked for me was just sticking with it for a full month to really see a difference. It's not a quick fix but it does actually help.

Actually, it's pretty common to think that. The thing is, a lot of people give up too early to see any real change. You have to be consistent, like Grace said, for weeks. It's not magic, it's just building a habit.
