Stop using the wrong rods for stainless tube welds
Kept seeing guys grab 308L for every stainless job. Did a pressure test last week on a 316 line and the weld cracked right at the HAZ. Cost us a full day of rework. Has anyone else had this bite them on a job?

Happens all the time where people just grab whatever filler metal is closest without checking the specs. It's like using the wrong tool for a job just cause it's in your hand already.

And that's exactly what happened to a buddy of mine last month. He was welding up some handrails for a porch job and just grabbed a roll of wire off the shelf without looking. Turns out it was ER70S-6 when he needed something with more tensile strength for the load bearing parts. The whole railing started cracking at the joints after a week in the sun. Had to tear it all down and start over, cost him two days and pissed off the homeowner real bad. Funny thing is he still blames the supplier for stocking it near the mig welders, but come on man, who doesn't check the label?
