Switched from oxy-fuel to plasma cutting on a job last month in Gary

I used to swear by my old torch setup for everything, but after fighting with warped steel on a 3/4 inch plate for 6 hours in the rain, a buddy handed me his Hypertherm and I got the same cut in 15 minutes with zero cleanup - now I'm thinking I wasted too much time being stubborn, has anyone else made the jump and regretted the cost upfront?

Raining in Gary? That's just Tuesday there." Had a buddy who spent a whole weekend fighting his old setup on a 3/4 plate, finally borrowed a plasma unit and finished the job before lunch the next day.

Sage calling out whether you were in the rain or inside the shop made me laugh. My buddy had a similar experience to the guy in the post, except he was working out of a garage in Hobart with no heat. He spent two days trying to cut some 1/2 inch diamond plate with his old torch, had to stop every hour because his hands got too cold to hold the handle steady. Finally caved and grabbed a little plasma cutter from the rental place. He said it was the best money he ever spent just to not have to stand there freezing while fighting warped metal. He told me later he actually finished the job and was home drinking coffee by noon the next day. That alone convinced me I should never be too proud to switch tools mid-job.

Was it raining inside the shop or were you outside in Gary?
