That moment I realized I was pulling my torch wrong on every single joint
I've been burning through filler rod like crazy on horizontal fillets for years, and last Tuesday an old timer walked by my booth and said 'hey, your torch angle is fighting the puddle.' He showed me a 15 degree tilt change and now my welds lay in flat instead of piling up. Anybody else get humbled by a simple adjustment that made all the difference?

Small tweaks in approach usually fix big problems in life too.

ellis.rose said small tweaks fix big problems, and that's true but sometimes the real lesson is how long we'll fight a bad habit before admitting we're wrong. I spent years blaming my filler rod or the machine settings when my torch angle was off by maybe 10 degrees the whole time. That old timer basically saved me a bunch of grinding and wasted rod by showing me something I could have figured out in five minutes with a test piece and a level.
