That old fitter's note about my layout marks stuck with me for 15 years

Back in 2009 at the refinery patch near Baton Rouge, a senior fitter pulled me aside and said my soapstone lines were too fat, that a straight edge don't lie but a lazy mark does. He made me redo the whole tube sheet layout with a sharpened point and a 6 foot rule, took me an extra 2 hours but I never went back to sloppy marks. Still catches myself checking line width before I tack anything, and it's saved my skin on more than one hydro test. Anybody else get a nitpick like that that just stuck with you?
