That rigging job on the 24 inch pipe took me 8 hours

I thought I could get that 24 inch pipe lifted in 2 hours tops. Ended up fighting with the sling angles for 6 more hours because nobody marked the center of gravity. Has anyone else wasted a whole shift on a simple lift?

My buddy down in Houston tried the same lift last month and ended up with a bent shackle because he skipped the spreader bar too. @noah914 is right about having extra gear ready, my friend told me he wasted 4 hours just waiting for a second crane to help balance the load. He said next time he's drawing out the sling angles on the concrete floor before even hooking up.

Stop blaming the lack of a marked center of gravity and start looking at your rigging setup beforehand. I've seen crews waste a whole day because they didn't take five minutes to figure out sling angles and balance points. That 24 inch pipe isn't just a big piece of steel, it's a physics problem you skipped. Marking the COG helps, but if you had the right spreader bar or multiple chokers ready, you could have adjusted on the fly. Sometimes the "simple lift" is harder because we assume it's simple and skip all the basic checks.
