The old tube layout charts vs. the new digital prints - a real difference I saw
I was cleaning out my toolbox last week and found a set of tube layout charts from the 1980s for a boiler at a paper mill in Savannah. These things were hand-drawn on graph paper, coffee stained, but every weld and tube sheet detail was spot on. Fast forward to this Tuesday, I’m on a job with a new apprentice who pulls up the same boiler’s CAD drawing on his tablet, and it’s missing three critical tie-in points because the file got corrupted. We spent an extra 2 hours on site fixing that. Has anyone else had trouble trusting these newer digital formats over the old paper ones?

Same thing happened to me on a chiller last month. Lost an entire afternoon.

Funny how those things always eat up way more time than they should. Must be a secret agreement between them and the calendar.
