Debate settled: audiobooks vs physical reading for comprehension

I tested both on a 400 page thriller last month and the audiobook made me miss 3 minor plot clues that completely changed the ending, so now I'm team physical copies for any book with twists - has anyone else found certain genres just don't work in audio format?

Physical books let your eyes jump back and forth to catch those little details, audiobooks just keep rolling forward (your ears can't skim backwards easily). I'd argue thrillers and mysteries are the worst offenders for audio, since authors hide clues in throwaway lines you can't double-check without rewinding like ten minutes.

Honestly, I read something a while back about how our brains actually process audio and text differently when it comes to memory recall. With a book, your eyes can just snap back to that weird name or clue on page 47, but with audio you're stuck fishing through a huge chunk of time. @leep89 you're totally right about mysteries being the worst for that, I remember trying to follow a whodunit on a long drive and missing a key detail about the victim's past, then having to rewind like 15 minutes just to catch it again.
