Got told my book club comments were too negative and it actually helped

Last month at our meeting about "Project Hail Mary," one of the quieter members pulled me aside after. She said she'd been dreading sharing her thoughts because I always found something wrong with every character's choices. I honestly thought I was being analytical. Now I try to lead with one thing I liked before I get into what bothered me. Has anyone else had someone call them out and it made you rethink how you talk about books?

That lead-with-one-thing-I-liked is a solid fix, I started doing the same after someone told me I was "too analytical" at my book club too.

That "too analytical" thing hits home... Reminds me of my friend Karen who used to destroy her book club meetings by pointing out plot holes and timeline inconsistencies. She didn't realize till someone pulled her aside and told her she made the discussions feel like a courtroom. Now she tries to find one thing she genuinely liked before she starts picking things apart. Works pretty well from what I hear, @noah914 probably saved my sanity from her ranting too.
