Had a guy in my book club argue that audiobooks don't count as reading

We were at Sarah's place last Thursday and he got real heated about it, said listening wasn't the same as turning pages. Asked him if blind people just never read books and he went quiet for a solid 10 seconds. Anyone else run into this audiobook gatekeeping thing?

Can't believe someone would actually get that worked up over how people consume stories... especially in a book club of all places. The blind person question was a good one, bet he didn't expect that. Some folks just can't get past the physical act of holding a book, like the story itself doesn't count if your eyes aren't moving across a page. I've got friends who listen while they commute or do chores and they remember more details than I do reading the old fashioned way. Feels like gatekeeping for no good reason, the whole point is to enjoy and discuss the material.

His friend really got owned with that blind person example though, didn't he?
