Had to pick between spoiler-heavy book and a slow burner for our June pick

Our club split 6 to 5 on whether to read the thriller everyone keeps raving about or the literary novel set in Portland. I pushed for the thriller but the slow burner won, and honestly the discussion was way better than I expected. Has anyone else had a book surprise them after they voted against it?

Wait, only SIX people voted for the thriller? That's wild to me because everyone I know is obsessed with that book right now. I mean I get it, the slow burn won, but the fact that it was that close and then the discussion was better is the part that's messing with me. That's honestly the opposite of what happens in my club. When I vote against a book and it wins anyway, I usually just sit there annoyed for the first half hour. But your group flipped it around on you, huh? Maybe I need to give that Portland novel a second look since it clearly had more going on than I would've guessed.
