Hit 75 books in a year, my club thinks I'm insane

Our club set a personal reading goal for 2024 and I logged my 75th book on December 30th, which was a 400 page sci-fi doorstop about sentient coral reefs. Turns out I was skimming the last 30 pages of every book to hit my count, and now I can't remember half the endings when we debate them. Has anyone else pushed a number so hard that they lost the actual story, or am I the only one faking my reading log?

That's the real question, isn't it? What's the point of logging 75 books if you can't actually talk about them at the club without bluffing your way through. So when you skim those last 30 pages, do you at least remember the first 370, or is it just a blur of names and settings? And more importantly, that sentient coral reef thing, did it have anything to say, or was it just a gimmick to pad your count? Because honestly, nobody in that club is checking your list as hard as you're checking it. You're not faking it for them, you're faking it for yourself. That's a heavier problem than the number on the page.
