I blew $40 on a book that turned out to be 200 pages of nothing

Picked up a buzzy novel after my book club voted for it last month, and I swear I kept waiting for something to happen until page 180. The writing was fine but the plot just meandered around a family drama in Chicago without ever landing anywhere. Has anyone else felt burned by a hyped book that left you wishing you'd just borrowed it from the library?

Bro did your book club actually like it or were they just trying to look smart? I swear people hype up stuff just to seem cultured when really the book is a total snoozefest. What was the big twist everyone kept talking about on social media, cause I saw people going crazy over this one and now I'm curious if it was all just fake hype. The Chicago setting makes me think it was one of those "literary fiction" deals where nothing happens but the author uses big words so critics call it deep.

Huh, nothing worse than spending money on a book that reads like a Wikipedia rabbit hole but with none of the payoff. I'd be annoyed if my book club picked something that boring, honestly they probably just didn't want to admit they gave up halfway through either. Next time just borrow it from the library, saves you $40 and the regret.
