I finally blew up after our book club's latest fight over book meanings
We were supposed to discuss 'The Silent Patient' and it turned into a mess. One group kept saying the twist was obvious from page one, while others thought it was genius. I tried to share my view, but everyone just yelled their own points. It got so loud my neighbor texted to ask if we were okay. I put real thought into my reading, and for what? Now the vibe is totally off, and two members said they might skip next time. I hate how something fun became so stressful. Can't we just chat about books without it feeling like a battle?

Isn't the whole point of a book club to have these fights? That loud mess just proves people actually cared about the book enough to get worked up. If everyone was too polite to disagree, you'd just have a boring tea party where nothing gets said.

Yeah, and it reminds me of this book club fight over a character's motives that got so heated someone stormed out. We were reading this family story, and two people saw the mother totally different ways. The argument dragged on, with everyone else choosing sides. It was a mess, but we talked about that book for weeks after. Those fights make you care more about the story. So loud messes are kinda the point, like you said.
