I finally gave up on that 'classic' 1,200 page fantasy tome
Back in 2017 I bought this huge fantasy series everyone in my old book club swore was a masterpiece. I spent 40 bucks on the first book and pushed through 600 pages over 4 months. The pacing was brutal, and I kept waiting for the plot to actually start moving. I finally quit halfway and donated it to the library in Cleveland. Has anyone else dumped a hyped book after sinking serious time into it, or am I the only one who bails that late?

Totally get it. Seems like there's this whole pressure to finish stuff just because you paid for it or started it, whether it's a book, a show, or even a hobby. I mean, I've sat through entire seasons of TV shows I hated just because everyone said the last episode was worth it. You're basically stuck in this sunk cost trap, like eating a bad meal just because you already ordered it. Getting rid of that book after 600 pages is honestly a win, it means you finally said no to that whole mindset. Maybe it's just me but once I bailed on a board game night after two hours of setup and no actual playing, felt way better than forcing myself to stay.
