I spent 80 bucks on a "collector's edition" book that fell apart in a week

Picked up this fancy hardcover from a book club recommendation last month. Leather bound, nice paper, thought it would last forever. The spine split clean in half by day three. I was only on page 47 when the whole thing cracked. Glue job was terrible, pages started falling out like autumn leaves. Wasted 80 dollars on something that's basically a paperweight now. Has anyone else gotten burned by these so-called premium editions that are just cheap garbage inside?

Oh man, that's brutal! I've noticed this same thing happening everywhere lately (not just books). Like even basic stuff - I bought a "premium" kitchen knife set last year and the handles started cracking after two months. It's like companies figured out they can slap a fancy label on something, jack up the price, and still use the cheapest materials possible. The whole "collector's edition" thing feels like a scam sometimes, where they're betting you won't actually use it enough to notice it's poorly made.

Is there even one company left that actually cares about making stuff that lasts? It's like they all figured out the same trick - make it look good on the shelf but fall apart after you own it for a bit. My buddy bought a "lifetime warranty" blender that broke on the third use and they told him the warranty didn't cover "normal wear." That's just insulting. They bank on you not wanting to deal with the hassle of returns or repairs. So you end up either living with junk or buying another one that'll probably do the same thing.
