My friend Sarah said to skip the last 50 pages of 'The Silent Patient' and I should have listened.

She warned me the twist felt cheap and the ending would ruin the whole book for me. I pushed through anyway and now I'm just annoyed I wasted a week on it. Has anyone else had a book club pick where the ending completely wrecked the experience?

My book club read that last year and half of us felt the exact same way. Why do so many thrillers build up a great story just to fumble the ending?

I read that book too, Jason, and honestly the ending felt rushed... like they ran out of pages. Publishers push for a big twist now, even if it doesn't fit the story they built. It just leaves you feeling cheated after a good setup.

Because they write the twist first, then force the story to fit it.
