Our book club spent 2 hours debating a missing chapter that never existed

Last Tuesday in Portland, our group of 8 got into this huge fight over whether the paperback edition of a thriller was missing a chapter. Two members swore they remembered a scene with a lighthouse keeper, but I checked the ebook and the hardcover from the library, neither had it. Turns out one of them was confusing it with a Stephen King novel from 1987 and the other just nodded along. We burned almost the whole meeting going back and forth about page numbers and publisher notes. Has anyone else had a member confidently invent plot details that completely derailed a discussion?
