Our book club's quietest member finally spoke up about 'The Overstory' and changed the whole discussion.

After three meetings of polite nods, she said, 'I think the book is wrong about human nature being separate from the forest,' and that one sentence from Sarah, a retired librarian, sparked the most honest two-hour debate we've had all year, so has anyone else had a single comment completely shift your group's view on a book?

Sarah's comment about human nature not being separate from the forest is a huge idea. What did she say next to back that up? Did she point to a specific part of the book, or was it more about her own life experience? I'm curious what made her break her silence after three meetings.

Oh man, she basically read the whole chapter about the mycorrhizal network. Said something like, "We're all just walking around with our own little root systems, pretending we're not connected." Honestly, I think she finally talked because Tom brought those terrible store-bought cookies again. That would break anyone's silence.

Buddy of mine went quiet for months after someone brought gas station sushi.
