Rant: That $200 "book club kit" from Etsy was pure garbage

My group in Portland decided to spice things up for our October read and I dropped $200 on a themed kit with discussion cards, maps, and props. The maps were pixelated and one card literally spoiled the ending before the questions started. Three members walked out mid-meeting because it felt like homework instead of conversation. Has anyone else wasted cash on those fancy curated sets, or do you just print your own stuff?

Ugh, that sounds like such a rip-off! I did the same thing last spring for a book club thing, spent like $150 on one of those kits, and the "props" were just cheap paper cutouts and a map that looked like someone printed it from a low-res Google search. The discussion cards were just basic yes or no questions too, like we couldn't come up with that ourselves. Honestly, my group ended up just passing around a laptop and looking stuff up on Wikipedia, which was way more fun. I feel like those kits are made for people who think book clubs are all about being fancy, not about actually talking about the story. I'm back to just printing a one-page sheet of talking points and calling it a day.
