That $60 audiobook I returned halfway through the first chapter

Every person in the group picked it apart like it was a masterpiece, but I could not get past the narrator's weird pauses. Has anyone else dumped a book club pick after one listen or are we all just supposed to fake it for the sake of the potluck?
