That book club debate about unreliable narrators wrecked our meeting
Last Tuesday in Portland, our group got into it over whether the narrator in the latest pick was lying or just mistaken. Two members started repeating the same points for 20 minutes, and we never got past chapter 7. I had to step in and suggest we vote on a rule: each person gets 3 minutes to talk before we move on. It worked, but the tension killed the fun for the rest of the night. Has anyone else had a debate spiral like that, and how do you shut it down without making someone feel attacked?
