The classic novel I rolled my eyes at for years actually blew me away
I finally caved and read Moby Dick last month after my friend literally begged me for 3 years. I was so sure it would be boring old man writing about a whale for 600 pages lol. But the chapter about the whiteness of the whale really hooked me around page 180. I actually started highlighting passages which I never do. Has anyone else been totally wrong about a "classic" and then changed their mind after actually reading it?

Wait, isn't the Pequod leaving port in like chapter 1? I think you might be mixing up when Ishmael gets to Nantucket versus when the ship actually sails. Anyway, I totally get what you mean about being wrong about a classic. For me it was Pride and Prejudice, thought it was just snooty romance stuff but the way Austen writes conversations is actually hilarious once you get into it.

Page 180" is way late for Moby Dick, the Pequod doesn't even leave port until around chapter 22.
