A retired printer in Portland talked me out of my leather grain obsession

Met this old guy at a shop swap who ran a press for 40 years. He said book cloth with a linen texture ages better than any fancy hide, and I spent the whole weekend testing it on a journal. Has anyone else ditched a premium material for something plainer and been happier?
