Folded a whole book backwards for 5 years before someone stopped me
Ngl I was at a guild meetup last month and this older binder just watched me crease a spine and asked 'you know that's why your joints crack right?' Took me showing him my last 3 projects for it to click how much damage I'd been doing.

Wait, is that why my left elbow sounds like a bag of chips every time I stretch? I ruined a whole series of paperbacks before someone told me I was supposed to crack the spine like a glow stick, not fold the whole thing in half.

Right there with you. I used to treat books like they were made of steel and then wonder why the binding cracked and pages fell out like autumn leaves. Actually learned the glow stick trick from a librarian in college and my books have survived ever since. Still cringe thinking about that poor copy of "The Hobbit" I destroyed in middle school though.
