Just realized my book press was off by a quarter inch for the last 6 months

Pulled a stack of journals out of the press last Tuesday and every single one had a slight slant on the spine, now I've got 15 books that need rebinding because I didn't check my press alignment after moving it to the basement.

Woah hold up, I'm gonna play devil's advocate here for a second. A quarter inch off isn't gonna ruin the whole bind if you're using proper casing-in methods and hinge reinforcement. I've seen people intentionally leave a tiny gap for better spine flexibility on softcover journals. @dakota_murphy90's buddy probably had other issues too like bad glue or paper grain direction if it turned out that bad.

Same thing happened to a buddy of mine with his book press last year. He was telling me about it, said he didn't notice until the spines started looking like a crooked zipper. A quarter inch is small but it messes up the whole bind. I read somewhere that moving equipment is the number one cause of alignment drift in bookbinding tools. Gravity and bumps just throw things off.
