My bone folder snapped in half mid-fold yesterday
I was working on a leather bound journal and the cheap plastic folder just gave out with a loud crack. Had to finish the spine with a butter knife from the kitchen. Anyone else had a tool fail at the worst possible moment?

Oh man, that's the worst feeling when a tool just gives out like that! Same thing happened to me last month with a wooden bone folder I'd been using for years. It split right down the middle while I was burnishing the spine on a fancy handmade notebook I'd been working on for weeks. Had to grab a metal spatula from the kitchen too, and it left weird marks on the leather I couldn't fix. Cheap tools or old ones, they always seem to break when you're in the middle of something delicate. Now I keep a spare bone folder in my kit just in case, learned that lesson the hard way.

Totally feel you on that... I once had a cheap awl snap in half while I was trying to punch holes in some thick leather for a journal cover. Ended up using a toothpick to poke the rest of the holes, which looked absolutely terrible. @palmer.jana, my spare tool collection is basically just a graveyard of broken dreams at this point.
