PSA: Stop using dollar-store glue sticks on leather spines unless you want your book to fall apart in two months

Had a customer bring back a journal I bound in March and the spine literally peeled off like a sticker, turns out my cheap glue had zero flexibility and I spent my whole Sunday redoing it with proper PVA instead.

Exactly. I've tried cheaper PVAs and regretted it every time. @sullivan.abby hit the nail on the head. The workability and long-term hold are worth skipping the cheap stuff for.
