Rant: everyone here pushes sewing on cords, but I glue them and my books hold up fine
For the first three years of my bookbinding work I sewed every signature onto cords, and I was proud of it, but two summers ago I had 14 rebinds stacked up in my shop in Boise and no time, so I tried just gluing the spine with PVA and a linen strip instead. Everyone online says glue-only books fall apart in a few years, but I still use those 14 books, including one I open every week for recipes, and the spines are solid. Honestly the sewing thing feels like a badge people wear more than a real fix for a book that gets normal use. If sewing works for you, great, but I want to know from people who glue: how long have your books lasted, and what glue are you using?
