The day I stopped trusting my bone folder's rounded end

Last month in my shop in Columbus, I was smoothing a leather hinge and used the rounded tip to crease it, same as always. The next morning the leather had a faint shiny streak that no amount of burnishing would hide. I checked three old books I'd bound the same way and sure enough, there they were, dull pressure marks in the same spot. Has anyone else found that the rounded end leaves a compressed spot on soft leather, or do I need to switch to a teflon folder for those final passes?
