Tried using a bone folder on my first leather binding and it left permanent marks I couldn't buff out

I was pressing too hard on the spine folds and after I glued it up those creases showed right through the leather, has anyone else had luck sanding those out or do you just start over with a new piece?

Tried sanding once on a friend's project and it just made it worse, sadly.

Are you sure you can't just work those marks into the design? I've had a few projects where what I thought was a flaw ended up looking like a cool distressed leather effect after I rubbed some wax into it. Maybe try buffing a little harder with a smooth bone folder next time before the glue sets, the marks from heavy pressure can sometimes be flattened out if you catch them quickly enough.
