Used to cut boards by eye until I ruined a $400 order
Back when I first started binding, I would just mark my book board with a pencil and slice it with a utility knife. No square, no measurements, just gut feeling. Last month I finally bought a proper board shear from a guy in Portland for $200. First job I did with it came out perfect, every corner square. I don't know why I waited so long, I guess I thought hand tools made it more authentic. But wasting that much material over two years really added up. Has anyone else switched from hand cutting to a shear and felt dumb about not doing it sooner?

Same here. Bought a used Kutrimmer last spring, best $150 I ever spent.

Man, I was just reading about how Kutrimmer started as a small shop in Ohio back in the 90s. @patp79, sounds like you got a real steal on that thing.
