Vent: Paid $80 for a book press clamp and used a stack of cookbooks instead
Bought one of those fancy book presses off Etsy, thought it would make my life easier. Took two weeks to ship, showed up with a crooked screw, and the plates were warped enough that my text block came out looking like a wavy potato chip. I spent another hour trying to sand it flat. Gave up, stacked my mom's old Better Homes and Gardens set on top, clamped it with binder clips, and it came out flatter than anything that press ever did. Anyone else had better luck with homemade weights or is this a universal scam?

That crooked screw set you up, but cheap presses need patience and adjustment, not instant magic.
